I Win, You Win

[City of Kaezar, Avanil Way, Town Green]
At the center of a common green, the wide road crests between city and bay, sloping downward to the north and to the south. To either side, a low split-log fence encloses the large plot of lawn. Weeds grow around the feet of a pair of stone benches set along the west side of the road. You see an Imperial guardsman. Also here is Rusty and Teru (seated on a stone bench).
Obvious exits are east, south, northeast, north, northwest, southeast, southwest, and west.

Rusty stands in front of Teru, blocking him from the guard's line of sight.

An Imperial guardsman says, "I've been asked by the Duchess Sarafina and Prince Vek to thank him for letting them borrow his key, and to return it."
An Imperial guardsman offers his large fancy merieje key to Teru.
Teru asks, "A moment?"
Rusty ponders the situation.
Teru peers at an Imperial guardsman.
Teru accepts an Imperial guardsman's offer.
Teru nods to an Imperial guardsman.
Rusty says, "Well, thank goodness. Someone sees sence."
Rusty asks, "Is the duchess or the Prince available?"
An Imperial guardsman says, "Both Prince Vek and Duchess Sarafina hope you enjoy your stay in Kaezar."
Rusty glances at an Imperial guardsman.
An Imperial guardsman says, "I'm not the right person to ask about that, i just follow orders."
An Imperial guardsman nods.
Teru asks, "Dear one..should i ask the guard to deliver my letter to the prince..or is this the end of the situation?"
Teru peers at Rusty.
Rusty glances at Teru.
An Imperial guardsman says, "Good eve to you then."
An Imperial guardsman bows.
An Imperial guardsman walks east.
You try to sneak east.

[City of Kaezar, Town Green]
Extending from the riverbank to the other side of Avanil Way, the wide expanse of lush green grass and trees of the Town Green provides a welcome respite from the gritty streets and crowded buildings of the city. Footpaths lead along the side of a low stone wall at river's edge, and cross the lawn weaving
westward. You see an Imperial guardsman.
Obvious exits are southwest, south, north, northwest, and west.

An Imperial guardsman wanders off to the guardhouse.
You exclaim, "Hey!"
You try to sneak west.

Rusty says, "I think it's pretty clear in that round about apology, that the matter is settled."
Rusty says, "At least this one is."
Teru says, "I agree it is for the best he left..we have more problems than we can deal with currently.."
Rusty says, "Until the next one."
Teru says, "Giving the letter to the King will only cause more."
Teru kisses his large fancy merieje key.
Teru raises his his large fancy merieje key into the air.
Rusty says, "I think.. you should have that made into a necklace.."
Rusty sits down on a stone bench.
Rusty nods to Teru.
Teru says, "I plan on making it into a circlet..inset with a bloodstone.."
Teru nods to Rusty.
Teru puts a large fancy merieje key in his beaded velvet scroll pouch.
Rusty nods to Teru.
Teru gets a piece of yellow parchment from a beaded velvet scroll pouch.
Teru nods slightly.
Teru puts a piece of yellow parchment in his beaded velvet scroll pouch.
Teru closes a beaded velvet scroll pouch.
Teru says, "This complicates things i believe."
Teru scratches his chin.
Goozedown walks in.
Goozedown walks north.
Teru asks, "These people..these many people..who have agreed to aid me...what shall i tell them...is this too far to stop..or should it be stopped?"
Rusty glances at Teru.
Rusty asks, "What does?"
Teru ponders the situation.
Teru says, "You do not know yet..but we have allies..close to ten.."
Goozedown walks in.
Goozedown walks south.
Rusty blinks.
Teru nods to Rusty.
Rusty asks, "Yes?"
Teru says, "Yes."
Teru says, "I approached them..they agreed to help."
Teru nods slightly.
Teru says, "I am stuck between a rock and a very hard place.."
Rusty asks, "Explain, please?"
Teru says, "Well..i have started something that i am not sure can be stopped..or that i wish to stop it.."
Teru says, "As you said..revolution."
Rusty stares off into the distance.
Rusty nods.
Teru says, "They will think me a fool for enlisting aid and then the doers of this deed right the wrong.."
Teru frowns.
Rusty asks, "Was all this truly about the key, Teru?"
Teru says, "A very big fool."
Rusty shifts her eyes to Teru.
Rusty asks, "Truly?"
Rusty asks, "Was it so petty?"
Teru asks, "About the key..completely?"
Teru says, "Of course not."
Rusty nods.
Rusty says, "Then I see no reason to change anything."
Teru says, "It was about my overall treatment..and others' treatment...by the Imperial Guard..the nobility got in the middle.."
Rusty nods to Teru.
Teru says, "So the focus changes now then.."
Teru nods approvingly.
Teru says, "First..these people i name are our allies..tell them if i have not already of the focus changing strictly to the Imperial Guard.."
Rusty ponders the situation.
Teru says, "If they do not wish to continue to aid us..i will hold no ill will against them.."
Rusty nods.
Cedaven walks in.
Cedaven walks south.
Teru says, "Twyie, Kirsi, Dokar, Marinea, and Tarshin."
Teru nods to Rusty.
Teru says, "So now..how does this change things.."
Teru scratches his chin.
Teru asks, "What is the overall goal now?"
Teru ponders the situation.
Rusty gazes at Teru.
Teru asks, "The disbanding of the Imperial Guard..which will be an impossible feat?"
Teru scratches his chin.
Rusty shakes her head.
Teru asks, "The leash of the Imperial Guard given a yank and shortened quite a bit perhaps?"
Rusty says, "Perhaps.. the reeducation of the Imperial guard.."
Rusty nods to Teru.
Teru nods slightly.
Teru says, "Then it is decided."
Teru kisses Rusty.
Rusty says, "And a council of citizens.. that are not noblity by blood.. to become the voice of the people."
Rusty says, "I think that is important."
Teru agrees with Rusty.
Teru says, "This will not be difficult at all compared to my previous plans.."
Teru grins at Rusty.
Teru says, "Having a noble close to the King imprisoned is a large feat."
Teru licks his lips.
Rusty smiles faintly.
Teru says, "The Imperial Guard condems itself with the people."
Teru smirks.
Rusty nods.
Rusty says, "Aye.."
Teru says, "They help us and dont even realize it."
Teru throws back his head and cackles.
Teru says, "I feel much better now..like a load of bricks has been lifted from my shoulders.."
Jurion walks in.
Rusty smiles vaguely.
Jurion walks north.
Rusty says, "I'm glad."
Rusty stares off into the distance.
Teru says, "I have my precious key back...i do not doubt if i can succeed in my plans anymore..."
Teru leans on Rusty.
Teru kisses Rusty on the mouth.
Teru asks, "Perhaps i should write a new letter to the King?"
Rusty smiles slightly.
Teru says, "Along with letters from all who support this cause.."
Teru ponders the situation.
Rusty shakes her head.
Rusty says, "I do not think it wise to alert the royals to our supporters."
Teru nods to Rusty.
Teru says, "I will only send my name then..none other."
Teru says, "And relate to the King the actions of the Imperial Guard."
Rusty says, "I think you should write Vek.. and thank him for his courtesy.."
Teru says, "If he agrees to my request for an audience."
Rusty says, "..and yes, explain a general displeasure with the Guard."
Rusty nods.
Teru nods to Rusty.
Teru says, "A tahnk you letter must be written.."
Teru agrees with Rusty.

[ Tad runs off to talk to Merow. ]

[Crossroads Inn, Fall Room]
Though modest in appearance, this room is clean and comfortable. Covered by a gaily colored cotton throw, a fluffy feather bed sits against one wall. Beside it, an oil lamp rests on a small pine nightstand and a braided rug covers the floor. Opposite the bed, an inviting rocking chair and a muslin-covered table have been placed beneath a window with pine shutters. Wooden pegs, from which guests may hang their belongings, protrude from the back of the door. Also here is Merow.

Muffled noises can be heard coming from the hallway.

Merow closes a green door.
Merow latches a green door.
Merow searches around for something.
Merow searches around for something.
Merow nods.
Merow says, "Go ahead."
You say, "I saw them in the Green...plotting."
You say, "Rusty and Teru."
Merow asks, "Rusty too?"
Merow sighs.
You nod sadly.
Merow says, "I'd hoped she wasn't involved."
Merow asks, "What were they saying?"
You say, "I guess he originally wanted to overthrow the nobility, too, but the Prince and Dutchess returned his key."
You say, "I saw a Guardsmen give the key to him there."
Merow asks, "And now?"
You act: Tad looks about nervously.
You say, "Now he only wants revenge upon the Guard. He named a list of co-conspirators."
Merow asks, "And they are?"
You say, "Twyie, Kirsi, Dokar, Marinea, and Tarshin."
You say, "Though he said he had ten people, he only named those five."
Merow says, "You forgot rusty."
You nod sadly.
You say, "But I'm sure she must be ensorcelled or something. I never knew her to talk of sedition."
Merow asks, "Did they say exactly how they were going to get revenge?"
You say, "He wants to shorten the 'leash' of the Imperial Guard."
Merow grins wryly.
You say, "Also, he wishes to appoint a council of citizens, not nobility, so that there is a voice of the people."
You say, "I have the impression he was going to send a letter to Vek, but he did not. He has it in his pouch."
Merow says, "I'm sure the nobility would love that."
You say, "His previous plan, I gather, had to do with imprisoning a noble 'close to the King.'"
You ask, "Maybe the Dutchess?"
You glance at Merow.
Merow nods to you.
Merow says, "Most likely."
Merow asks, "Did he say when all this was to go down?"
You shake your head.
You say, "He said that he plans to send a message to Vek, concerning the Guard."
Merow asks, "Were you hidden during all this?"
You nod to Merow.
You exclaim, "Yes. They were talking about it in the GREEN, of all places!"
You ask, "Can you believe that?"
Merow gazes upwards to the heavens.
Merow asks, "They still there, you think?"
You say, "Perhaps."
You nod.
Merow says, "I'm going to have fun with them."
You ask, "Yeah?"
Merow says, "My thanks lass, you told me some things I didn't know."
Merow turns toward you and executes a salute with his oak-hafted low-steel greataxe.
You say, "Check in his scroll pouch, the beaded one."
Merow unlatches a green door.
Merow opens a green door.
You say, "There's parchment there."
Merow nods to you.
Merow wanders through the green door.
You walk through the green door.

[ Tad heads downstairs and back into the Green. ]

You try to sneak north.

Also here is Merow, Tax Collector Rade, and Teru.
Obvious exits are east, south, northeast, north, northwest, southeast, southwest, and west.
You can't find a way to sneak in that direction.

Tax Collector Rade asks, "Might i have a word with you?"
Merow asks, "Might I suggest checking the lads beaded pouch?"
Teru says, "Of course.."
Tax Collector Rade joins Teru's group.
Tax Collector Rade asks, "Find us a quiet place?"
Teru nods to Tax Collector Rade.
Teru walks south.
Tax Collector Rade walks south.
You try to sneak south.

[ Tad searches around for them and finally catches them in the Tankard. ]

[The Silver Tankard, Common Room]
In this dimly lit tavern, mismatched tables and chairs are spread around the room, providing plenty of seating. Neatly labeled, a small menu is tacked above the polished vyrewood bar where several stools await thirsty patrons. In the large open-hearthed fireplace, a crackling fire is kept going all year long. A fur-draped doorway at the back leads onto the terrace, while a wooden door leads out onto the street. You see seven brown speckled eggs, Mariposa, and Tax Collector Rade (seated on a sturdy oak chair). Also here is Teru (seated on a sturdy oak chair).

The tantalizing aromas of roasting meat and baking breads come from a wide archway in the north wall, delightfully scenting the room.

Tax Collector Rade says, "Remember, i win, you win."
Teru says, "I shall."
Teru agrees with Tax Collector Rade.
Tax Collector Rade says, "We shall discuss this at a later time, i have business to attend to."
Teru nods to Tax Collector Rade.
Teru says, "Good eve..and thank you."
Teru stands up.
Tax Collector Rade says, "I'm certain it goes without saying, that I expect not to hear rumors of myself and this conversation around town."
Teru walks over to a sturdy oak chair.
Teru shakes hands with Tax Collector Rade.
Tax Collector Rade stands up.
Tax Collector Rade walks over to Teru.
Tax Collector Rade shakes hands with Teru.
Teru says, "Of course you shall not."
Tax Collector Rade says, "Good evening then."
Tax Collector Rade says, "And dont worry about your tax bill."
Teru nods.
Tax Collector Rade nods.
Teru throws back his head and cackles.
Teru winks at Tax Collector Rade.
Tax Collector Rade goes through the door.

[ And Tad runs right back to Merow. ]

[Crossroads Inn, Spring Room]
Modest by most standards, its contents showing signs of wear, this room is none-the-less clean and comfortable. Sitting against the far wall, a double bed with a faded quilt awaits the weary traveler. A simple pine nightstand has been placed beside it on the bare wooden floor. On the side wall, a washbasin
and candle rest neatly on the top of a painted dresser. Beside the dresser, a bare casement window looks down into the street below. You see eight small piece of twisted metals.

Merow comes through the blue door.
You close a blue door.
You latch a blue door.
You lean on a blue door.
You say, "Rade's in on it with Teru."
Merow says, "I know."
You glance at Merow.
You say, "I caught the last bit of their conversation."
Merow says, "Find Cedaven."
Merow says, "Bring him to the bar."
You nod.
Merow says, "You see Goozedown, you brin him here too."
Merow unlatches a blue door.
You say, "Rade told Teru that he expected there to be no rumors of their conversation around town."
You say, "He also told Teru not to worry about his taxes."
You mutter.
Merow asks, "What else?"
Merow latches a blue door.
You say, "I didn't hear it all, just enough to know that they're up to something. Rade said, 'Remember, you win, I win.'"
You say, "They shook hands."
Merow sighs.
Merow unlatches a blue door.
You say, "It took me enough time just to find them."
Merow says, "Go find those two for me."
You say, "I'll try."
Merow asks, "Did you know where they were?"
Merow asks, "Rade and Teru?"
You say, "I poked around and eventually found them in the Tankard."
Merow opens a blue door.
Merow wanders through the blue door.
