An Unfortunate Soul

[Silver Plum, Smoking Room]
Large soft leather easy chairs placed randomly around small coffee tables invite visitors to kick off their shoes and relax awhile. Against the far wall, a large portrait has been placed over the mantle of a stone fireplace. Soft light from a crystal chandelier filters through the smoke to make the room seem ethereal and highlights the kirchewood bar. Looking through the glass windows of the french doors is a view of the dining room. You see Yrael the bartender. Also here is Sinjinn.

Billowing clouds of sweet-smelling tobacco fill the air.

Papers rustling and glasses clinking makes a comfy atmosphere.

Sinjinn nods to Yrael the bartender.
You sigh theatrically.
Sinjinn sits down on a large easy chair.
You ask, "Emerald fyre?"
You say, "I can actually afford it for once."
Sinjinn says, "Oh, that would be marvelous."
You open an embroidered black leather pouch.
Sinjinn says, "I have plenty if you need."
You get a few royals from an embroidered black leather pouch.
Yrael the bartender wipes down the bar.
You say, "I have coffee."
You put a stoneware mug on a small table.
You walk over to a kirchewood bar.
You hand Yrael the bartender some money.
Yrael the bartender pours some emerald fyre and hands it to you. Yrael says, "Be extremely careful with that, it packs a wallop!"
Yrael the bartender gives you your change.
You put a handful of sovereigns in your embroidered black leather pouch.
You close an embroidered black leather pouch.
Sinjinn licks her lips.
You sniff your flask of emerald fyre.
You smell nothing extraordinary.
You walk over to a large easy chair.
You offer your flask of emerald fyre to Sinjinn.
Sinjinn smiles charmingly at you.
Sinjinn says, "Oh, thank you."
Sinjinn accepts your offer.
You act: Jurion inclines his head.
You chuckle.
You sit down on a large easy chair.
You lean forward while sitting on the large easy chair.
You get a stoneware mug from a small table.
Sinjinn smacks her lips.
You lean back while sitting on the large easy chair.
Sinjinn takes a wee nip of her flask of emerald fyre.
You sip some hot robust coffee from your stoneware mug.
The coffee tastes robust and hearty, awakening your taste buds.
This mug has a chip at the lip, but its bulbous shape feels good in one's hands.
Sinjinn sighs.
Sinjinn says, "Wonderful stuff."
Sinjinn says, "Now then."
Yrael the bartender wipes down the bar.
Sinjinn asks, "You recall our... rather heated discussion the other night?"
You frown slightly.
Sinjinn says, "With Kot and Shala..."
You say, "Yes."
You say, "Patriots."
You roll your eyes.
You swallow some hot robust coffee.
You slowly sip your coffee, enjoying its rich flavor.
Sinjinn smiles benignly.
Sinjinn asks, "Yes, well, guess who I chanced upon this very night?"
Sinjinn takes a wee nip of her flask of emerald fyre.
You say, "We've settled it, though, we're shutting it down."
You ask, "Who? Kot?"
Sinjinn asks, "Before I go on, shutting it down?"
Sinjinn raises an eyebrow in your direction.
Sinjinn asks, "It's definite then?"
You nod to Sinjinn.
Sinjinn says, "Good. They were a liability."
You put a stoneware mug on a small table.
You say, "Yes."
You ask, "Although I would have wished for more time. Who knows what we could have made?"
You act: Jurion lifts one shoulder in an idle shrug.
Sinjinn says, "I'm not happy it's over, but perhaps we can wreak a little more havoc yet."
You ask, "How so?"
Sinjinn says, "It was not Kot I chanced upon, love."
Sinjinn asks, "Who was it Shala almost wept over?"
Sinjinn says, "I can't watch it happen again, I believe she said of him."
Sinjinn smiles mischievously at you.
You ask, "Jayden?"
Sinjinn says, "Yes. In the cave in the Nickelshae mountains."
You act: Jurion looks interested.
You ask, "Did you club him over the head and haul him back to town?"
Sinjinn glances at you and tsks.
Sinjinn says, "Of course not. The fun would be over too quickly then."
You ask, "My dear, you're letting the orcs overrun Kaezar, don't you know?"
Sinjinn raises an eyebrow slowly in your direction.
You say, "At least according to Shala."
You snort.
Sinjinn asks, "Tell me is that such a bad thing?"
Sinjinn examines her nails.
Sinjinn takes a wee nip of her flask of emerald fyre.
Sinjinn shifts her eyes to you.
You lean back while sitting on the large easy chair.
Yrael the bartender wipes down the bar.
You say, "I don't know."
You say, "I can't say as I like orcs particularly."
You say, "But I am finding I have no great love for the royalty in Kaezar, either."
Sinjinn asks, "Oh, you're always saying it yourself... what did you get after you almost lost your head?"
You say, "Lice."
Sinjinn laughs at you.
You say, "Lots of them."
Sinjinn touches your hand.
You ask, "What, did he try to recruit you?"
Sinjinn says, "We won't think of that right now..."
You ask, "Or did he spin his tale about being innocent?"
Sinjinn says, "Actually, he said neither. I asked him to tell me his side."
Sinjinn says, "He went through the events as he saw them."
You ask, "How did he strike you?"
Sinjinn says, "Well, not knowing the man, there was a moment when I feared he would literally strike me..."
Sinjinn says, "Otherwise, he seemed genuine."
Sinjinn says, "Still... he knows orcish."
Sinjinn says, "And I do not know that I believe his tale of how."
You say, "I heard from Kot how he is supposed to have learned it."
Sinjinn asks, "What did he say?"
You say, "To be truthful, both stories sound too tangled to be probable."
Sinjinn says, "Exactly."
Sinjinn says, "Here's the crux of the problem, I think... he said he could not hear Merow's words to that orc... he was too far away."
Sinjinn asks, "So how is he so certain that Merow lied when he said Vek sent him?"
Sinjinn says, "You know I don't give a single damn about all that."
Sinjinn waves her hand disinterestedly.
You smile languidly at Sinjinn.
You say, "I was beginning to worry."
You ask, "You realize there are those in this town who would arrest you simply for speaking to him and not reporting it?"
Sinjinn asks, "Who said I won't?"
You raise an eyebrow.
You ask, "Will you?"
Sinjinn says, "I'm not certain yet... I mentioned that Shala would love to help him... and others."
You untie your scarlet ribbon and pull it out of your hair.
Sinjinn says, "You'll think me cold, but..."
You act: Jurion pulls his ribbon through his fingers.
Sinjinn slowly shifts her eyes to you.
You say, "I'm surprised you mentioned Shala, I'll admit."
You say, "You aren't known for your charity, love."
You act: Jurion threads his ribbon through his fingers.
Sinjinn smiles a terrible smile.
Sinjinn says, "I wouldn't consider what I had in mind charity."
You ask, "What are you thinking of, then?"
Sinjinn says, "I've a mind to bury Shala with him... and as many others as will go."
Yrael the bartender tidies up the bar, putting some bottles of liquor in their rightful places.
You act: Jurion rubs his mouth with the back of his hand.
Sinjinn gazes steadily at Jurion.
Crackling loudly, a log pops suddenly in the fireplace.
You act: Jurion jumps slightly.
You ask, "What... exactly... are you proposing?"
Sinjinn asks, "We stood to clear one hundred imperials apiece, did we not?"
You nod to Sinjinn slowly.
Sinjinn asks, "And then this utter folly of theirs has put an end to it, has it not?"
You say, "When the sum was collected in full, aye. They've left us with about thirty apiece now."
Sinjinn says, "So, we let them help him, we tell Shala he's looking for her, we let her enmire herself in up to the neck."
You lick your lips.
Sinjinn says, "And then of course... her neck will be all that's left."
You shift your weight.
You say, "I don't know."
Sinjinn asks, "So... does my lover think me terrible?"
You smile apprehensively.
Yrael the bartender stares off into the distance.
Sinjinn says, "Well, if it doesn't work out that way, say she helps him and he's working for the orcs? I enjoy that irony as much..."
You ask, "Why Shala in particular?"
You ask, "Other than her headlong desire to be the heroine of Kaezar?"
Sinjinn says, "Every story my mother ever told me had an unfortunate soul. To weave my own yarn, I need an unfortunate soul."
You say, "It's risky."
Yrael the bartender tidies up the bar, putting some bottles of liquor in their rightful places.
Sinjinn says, "I haven't forgotten what she put you through, either."
You say, "Ah."
You say, "No, nor have I."
You say, "Although in time I might have managed to forgive her for it."
You say, "I don't know."
Sinjinn says, "I should have been an actress, Jurion, but the woman drives me mad. I have ever blamed her for that horrible moment when I walked in to see you already on the platform of that guillotine."
Yrael the bartender wipes down the bar.
Yrael the bartender scratches his ear.
You glance at Yrael the bartender.
Yrael the bartender ponders your existence.
You act: Jurion lowers his voice.
Sinjinn nods to you.
You say, "Having her arrested is one thing."
You say, "That I would almost appreciate, given the trouble they may yet put us through."
You say, "But the block is another."
Sinjinn squints at you.
You say, "Although..."
Sinjinn asks, "Who was it who actually saved you, Jurion?"
Sinjinn asks, "Was it her?"
You smile wryly.
You say, "You know it wasn't."
Sinjinn says, "She would have seen your head roll."
Sinjinn says, "And been grateful it wasn't her own."
You act: Jurion looks troubled.
You say, "I don't know."
You say, "I find the block unlikely at any rate."
You say, "The Prince seems benevolent enough... He isn't Yurt."
Sinjinn says, "Not unless she aids someone who is working for Talone."
You say, "It would at least put paid to all this talk of 'finding the traitor' and 'saving Kaezar.'"
You bite your lip thoughtfully.
Sinjinn sighs.
Sinjinn says, "If it makes you feel better..."
You shake your head tiredly.
You say, "I worry that it could go too far. I haven't come to hate her yet."
You say, "I may, in time."
You say, "By tomorrow, even."
You smile slightly.
Sinjinn smiles slightly at you.
You say, "Let me think on it."
Sinjinn says, "Think of all the lice you had and sleep on it."
Sinjinn chuckles.
You nod thoughtfully.
You say, "I expect the maid is done by now."
You say, "Let's go up and see."
You stand up.
Sinjinn stands up.
Sinjinn says, "Good idea."
Sinjinn glances at Yrael the bartender.
Yrael the bartender glances at Sinjinn.
Sinjinn opens a well-sewn scarlet gymri hide purse.
Sinjinn gets a single imperial from a well-sewn scarlet gymri hide purse.
Sinjinn rubs her single imperial.
Sinjinn gazes at Yrael the bartender.
Yrael the bartender ponders Sinjinn's existence.
Sinjinn puts a single imperial on a kirchewood bar.
Sinjinn says, "Have a pleasant evening, Yrael."
Sinjinn closes a well-sewn scarlet gymri hide purse.
You nod to Yrael the bartender pleasantly.
Yrael the bartender scratches his head.
You walk over to Sinjinn.
You grab Sinjinn by the arm, motioning for her to follow.
