Baron Rillon
[Cappy's Inn, Main Room]
The old, weathered planks that make up the walls do very little to keep out drafts, but do give the erroneous feeling that you are on a ship and not in a land-based inn. Trestle tables made out of old hatch covers and homemade benches are scattered everywhere. A large, dusty stuffed fish is suspended over the bar as well as a rack holding beer mugs and whiskey glasses. Just past a large barrel, a sign has been tacked up over an arch that leads to a dark hallway and over it is a sign. Hanging on sagging hinges, a pair of swinging doors lead back out onto the pier. You see Cappy. Also here is Shala.
Sour beer and unwashed bodies cause a constant reek.
Shala waves to Cappy.
Shala ponders the situation.
You nod to Cappy politely.
Cappy scratches his head.
Tad glances at Cappy.
Cappy ponders Tad's existence.
Shala glances at a trestle table.
You say, "Hold up a moment..."
You work your way out of your simple brigandine.
Shala glances at an arch.
You say, "Ahhh."
You give a sigh of relief.
You scratch yourself.
Tad says, "Ah, yes."
You say, "Sorry."
Shala says, "This ought to be good enough.."
Tad says, "The sweet scent of Jurion."
You say, "That bloody thing has been itching me all night long."
Shala sits down on a bench.
Tad drops Umbra the black and grey kitten.
Tad opens a stitched black leather backpack.
Tad gets a small bottle of gardenia perfume from a stitched black leather backpack.
Tad removes the stopper from her small bottle of gardenia perfume.
Tad dabs on some perfume from her bottle.
The subtle scent of gardenias lightens your mood.
Tad places the stopper back in her small bottle of gardenia perfume.
Tad puts a small bottle of gardenia perfume in her stitched black leather backpack.
You sit down on a trestle table.
Tad closes a stitched black leather backpack.
You act: Jurion props his feet up on the bench.
Tad sits down on a bench.
Shala gazes at you.
You act: Jurion laces his fingers together.
You say, "Glad to see you're back in town."
Shala smiles.
Tad twiddles her thumbs.
Shala asks, "Missed me?"
Shala says, "Unfortunately my errand was fruitless, but..."
You say, "Dreadfully. I wept every night thinking of the sharpness of your elbows and the heat of your gaze."
Shala laughs.
Shala shakes her head at you.
The subtle scent of gardenias lightens your mood.
Tad says, "I'll kill him."
Tad glances at Shala.
Tad says, "Cheap."
Shala says, "You know I'm always looking out for your best interests, Jurion."
Shala grins at Tad.
Shala says, "And put him out of his misery? Don't be silly."
Shala leans forward and crosses her arms on the table.
You act: Jurion wipes his hands on his breeches.
Shala grins.
Umbra the black and grey kitten arches her back and stretches.
You narrow your eyes.
Tad says, "He likes you."
Shala waits patiently.
You say, "I can see that."
Tad kisses her hand.
Shala says, "He likes everyone with money."
Tad rubs Umbra the black and grey kitten gently.
Umbra the black and grey kitten stretches and purrs.
The overwhelming odor of gardenias emanates from Tad.
Shala says, "I have come across a wonderful opportunity, Jurion."
Shala smiles.
You say, "I hesitate to inquire, knowing the last wonderful opportunity I pursued."
Shala smiles.
You ask, "What's it all about, then?"
Shala says, "This is different. It's for the good of all."
Shala says, "A nobleman from Pendhaven has taken an interest in Kaezar."
Shala says, "He feels it would be a wonderful place for a temple to Eyssa."
Shala says, "Unfortunately, he is unable to finance it alone. Our help is needed."
Shala says, "I thought of you right away, of course."
Shala smiles at you.
You ask, "'Our' being?"
The warm aroma of a gardenia blossoms tickles your nose.
You ask, "You and I?"
Shala nods.
Shala glances at Tad.
Shala says, "All of us."
Tad raises an eyebrow.
Tad asks, "And I care about a temple...WHY, exactly?"
A loud wailing noise keens through the air and grows silent as tallow's light fills the air.
Shala says, "You should be asking me why others would care."
You ask, "Because if you're not in Eyssa's good graces, you end up coming out the south end of a north-bound orc?"
Shala blinks.
Shala gazes about nervously.
Shala says, "Jurion..."
You wince.
Shala asks, "Did you hear that?"
Shala stands up.
Tad shivers.
You say, "What an unpleasant noise."
Shala glances at Cappy.
Cappy shrugs.
Tad stands up.
Shala asks, "Cappy?"
Shala asks, "That wasn't Leona, was it?"
You gaze at some swinging doors.
The warm aroma of a gardenia blossoms tickles your nose.
Shala glances at an arch.
Umbra the black and grey kitten's eyes glow like burning embers.
Shala asks, "Are you sure indoors is safer?"
Shala asks, "Tad?"
Shala searches around for something.
Tad says, "I'm here."
Shala frowns uneasily.
Tad says, "Just being cautious."
You clear your throat.
Shala says, "Maybe we should speak of this later."
You say, "Looks like a grand time to take that trip up to Never."
Shala nods to you.
Shala fidgets.
Tad says, "I'm sure everyone in town is looking for the cause of that noise."
Shala says, "It's just a draft."
Shala sits down on a bench.
Shala says, "The wind."
Shala nods.
You open your mouth as if to say something.
A slight odor of gardenias wafts from Tad's direction.
You say, "Maybe."
Tad says, "Now, if you don't mind..."
Tad says, "...I'll be right here."
Shala nods.
Shala asks, "What was I saying?"
Shala frowns slightly.
You say, "Something about a temple to Eyssa."
Shala says, "Oh... yes."
Shala nods to you.
You glance at some swinging doors.
Shala says, "Ask me why others would care about helping a temple be built."
Shala gazes at you.
You say, "Tad just did."
Tad coughs.
Shala says, "She asked why she would care."
Tad smiles quickly.
Shala grins.
You ask, "Why would others care about helping to build a temple?"
A slight odor of gardenias wafts from Tad's direction.
Shala says, "How many people do you think might donate to a temple dedicated to Eyssa if they knew their name would go on a wall there? Engraved for future generations to see and admire."
You say, "I suppose quite a few might be interested in that..."
Shala nods to you.
Tad says, "Rich folks."
You ask, "And where do you enter into this?"
Shala smiles sweetly.
A aroma of gardenias in full bloom fills your nostrils.
Shala says, "Why, I'm just an interested party. I want to help, of course."
Umbra the black and grey kitten licks a paw.
You ask, "And where do I enter into this?"
You act: Jurion puts one hand flat on the table to support his weight.
Shala says, "After all, I did speak to Baron Rillon. I can vouch for him saying he'd match the funds raised in Kaezar to this purpose."
Shala says, "Perhaps if you could meet with the Baron too, ..."
Shala smiles at you.
You open your mouth as if to say something.
Shala says, "That might carry more weight than my word alone, of course."
Tad asks, "Baron, huh?"
Shala nods.
Shala says, "A nice man. Just a little shy and lots of properties to oversee, of course."
A slight odor of gardenias wafts from Tad's direction.
You say, "Well, no. I trust you. Although I haven't had much opportunity to move in the better social circles lately."
Shala nods to you.
You say, "If it could be arranged..."
You shrug.
Shala smiles at you.
You ask, "So... You want me to what? Speak to others about raising money?"
Shala says, "I'm sure it could."
Shala nods to you.
Tad asks, "So, I ask again...why do *I* care?"
Tad asks, "Exactly?"
Shala smiles.
Shala says, "Cause I never ask a favor that I can't pay for, Tad."
Tad says, "Yeah, but I don't know what the favor is yet."
A slight odor of gardenias wafts from Tad's direction.
Shala says, "Well, maybe when you've met the Baron you could tell folks of his sincerity also."
Umbra the black and grey kitten growls at Tad.
Shala gazes at Tad.
Tad says, "Like folks give two sovs what I think."
Tad sits down on a bench.
Tad pets Umbra the black and grey kitten lovingly.
Tad tickles Umbra the black and grey kitten.
Umbra the black and grey kitten rolls around enjoying the attention.
Shala asks, "No reason they wouldn't believe you, is there?"
Tad laughs.
Tad says, "No, no. 'Course not."
You say, "I suppose a more pertinent question might be, 'How much could Tad stand to make if she was interested in doing this?'"
Shala ponders the situation.
A aroma of gardenias in full bloom fills your nostrils.
Shala says, "To be honest, it would depend on how well it went."
Umbra the black and grey kitten makes a cute little growling sound.
Umbra the black and grey kitten arches her back and stretches.
Shala says, "And I haven't committed myself to anything yet. Just seeing if it could be done. I'd need help."
Tad asks, "So, this Baron fellow builds a temple, and people pay him to be memorialized in it?"
Shala nods to Tad.
Shala says, "Yes, something very like that."
Shala says, "Hopefully nothing untoward would happen."
Tad asks, "Is he doin' it for the goddess, or is he doin' it for his pouch?"
You act: Jurion straightens up.
Shala smiles at Tad.
Shala says, "For the goddess, of course. But you know how many things can go wrong in things like this."
You act: Jurion rubs the back of his neck with his hand.
Tad asks, "Like how much money can get misplaced?"
A slight odor of gardenias wafts from Tad's direction.
You say, "Yes. Well."
Shala nods to Tad.
Tad says, "I dunno. I'll have to think on it."
Tad says, "Doesn't sound like my sort of scam."
Shala says, "Fair enough."
You ask, "We're not speaking of misplacing money, are we? Is this an honest venture?"
Shala glances at you.
You say, "Well..."
You act: Jurion spreads his hands.
You act: Jurion flushes slightly.
Shala says, "Well, depends on how ya define honest, I guess."
You act: Jurion lowers his voice.
You lean forward while sitting on the trestle table.
You ask, "Well?"
Shala smiles at you.
Shala says, "Don't be so nervous, Jurion. It's minimal risk for you."
Tad tickles Umbra the black and grey kitten.
Umbra the black and grey kitten mewls and twists around so Tad is tickling her belly.
You smile wryly.
You say, "All right. I'll endeavor to help out in whatever way I can."
Tad bites Umbra the black and grey kitten.
Umbra the black and grey kitten yowls!
Umbra the black and grey kitten leaps toward Tad, claws unsheathed!
offense: 0 defense: 37 d100: 59 = 22
Umbra the black and grey kitten swings too quickly, missing Tad by a good two feet.
Shala smiles at you.
Shala glances at Tad.
You glance at Umbra the black and grey kitten.
Shala ponders the situation.
Tad chuckles at Umbra the black and grey kitten.
Shala says, "Mean one you got there, Tad."
Tad rubs Umbra the black and grey kitten gently.
Umbra the black and grey kitten purrs.
Tad says, "She's sweet."
Shala says, "Guess she doesn't like to be bitten."
Tad says, "Just a nibble."
Umbra the black and grey kitten makes a cute little growling sound.
You act: Jurion lifts one shoulder in an idle shrug.
Shala smiles.
You say, "I'm a bit short on cash as it is."
Shala gazes at you.
You say, "Got carried away buying clothes in Never..."
Shala grins.
Tad rubs Umbra the black and grey kitten gently.

to bat playfully at her ear.
Shala says, "I have a few more things to put in place and I'll let you know when and where."
You nod to Shala.
You say, "I'll be about. Unless I move back to Never."
You scratch your chin.
Umbra the black and grey kitten lays her ears back and glares at Tad.
Shala grins at you.
You say, "Which is possible, if we keep hearing odd night noises like that."
