A Special Love for Intrigue
[The Hidden Nook, Common Room]
Light from a large firepit bathes the room with a soft ambient glow. Shadowy images dance along the keafwood walls and around a large oaken door. An archway in the eastern wall reveals a modest, busy kitchen. A simple pine door stands next to a rough vyrewood door against the northern wall. You see a stemware glass, four sturdy oak chairs, a large oak table, and a comfortable rabu-fur rug.
The wonderful aroma of freshly baked bread fills the air.
The only obvious exit is out.
Raeh sits down on a sturdy oak chair.
Raeh smiles slightly.
You close a rough vyrewood door.
Raeh leans back while sitting on the sturdy oak chair.
You nod.
You sit down on a sturdy oak chair.
Raeh smooths her cloak carefully.
Raeh asks, "How are you faring?"
You put a tall thraelware mug on a large oak table.
Raeh smiles slightly at you.
You say, "Oh, well enough."
You say, "I've had some news you might be interested in."
Raeh raises an eyebrow.
You ask, "May I ask what sort of conversation you and Shala had?"
Raeh asks, "You're just curious?"
You say, "Not that I imply anything thereby, it's only that she's been a little... Hm."
You say, "How should I put it."
You say, "Probing lately."
Raeh peers at you.
Raeh asks, "Is that so?"
Raeh asks, "Probing to you?"
Raeh leans forward while sitting on the sturdy oak chair.
You say, "Inquiring why Sinjinn's orcish sounded so much like orcish on stage."
You say, "Which I don't understand, because Sin was only grunting. You see my point, however."
Raeh asks, "Anything else she's been probing about?"
You say, "My feelings towards the town."
Raeh nods to you.
You say, "Those aren't any particular secret, but still."
Raeh ponders the situation.
Raeh says, "Well Jurion."
A young sylvan woman enters the room. She looks up at you with a cheery smile and says, "My, we have quite the crowd today." Walking on, she quietly giggles to herself and heads through the arch.
Raeh says, "There's something I should te-"
You act: Jurion makes a slight gesture with his hand.
You say, "It's only the maid."
Raeh asks, "Do people tend to jaunt in here?"
Raeh mutters under her breath.
Raeh says, "Alright."
You say, "No, just the employees."
Raeh says, "There's something about Shala you should know."
Raeh glances at you.
You raise an eyebrow slightly.
Raeh says, "Be careful around her."
Raeh says, "Expecially with what we're up to."
Raeh says, "You know she has a special love for intrigue."
You untie your scarlet ribbon and pull it out of your hair.
Raeh smiles wryly.
You chuckle.
You say, "I am aware of that, yes."
Raeh says, "As you said, she is a spy for the Imperial Guard."
You lean back while sitting on the sturdy oak chair.
You act: Jurion exhales quietly.
You nod.
Raeh smiles slowly.
Raeh nods to you.
You ask, "Did she tell you this?"
Raeh says, "Oh no."
Raeh says, "She wouldn't tell me anything like that."
Raeh says, "Although if you watch her face for a half hour you can learn her life story."
You smile faintly.
Raeh says, "No, Merow told me, one of the last bits he gave me before his... passing."
Raeh says, "He was privvy to a lot of information. A shame he's gone."
You say, "She said to me... She said Merow had said much the same to her."
The fire dances within the pit with an almost rhythmic sizzling and popping.
You say, "I mislike the fact that she's been showing us one face and reporting this and that to the guards."
You say, "But it's no surprise."
You sigh.
Raeh says, "I wonder how far her idea of friendship extends."
You say, "Oh, far enough to cry if she hauls us to the block."
Raeh chuckles wryly.
Raeh smiles at you.
You say, "Other than that I'm sure she'd sing a few tragic songs and congratulate herself on saving Kaezar."
You act: Jurion pulls his ribbon through his fingers restlessly.
You say, "But listen. I've had word."
You lean forward while sitting on the sturdy oak chair.
Raeh says, "She's watching us now, we'd best be careful."
Raeh nods to you.
Raeh leans forward while sitting on the sturdy oak chair.
You nod to Raeh.
Raeh leans on a large oak table.
You ask, "You haven't had any of that ale in Breen's, have you?"
Raeh shakes her head.
Raeh says, "No."
You act: Jurion relaxes slightly.
You say, "Good. Don't."
Raeh peers at you.
Raeh asks, "What are you getting at?"
You smile thinly at Raeh.
You say, "It's poison."
Raeh blinks briefly.
Raeh narrows her eyes.
Raeh grins wryly.
Raeh says, "Is it now."
You say, "The word I heard wasn't quite 'poison', but it's hard to translate exactly."
Raeh says, "I can't wait to hear how you found this out."
You say, "I was climbing up to Halcyon Point the other day, and I met..."
You say, "Let's just say he could pass for human if he tried and leave it at that."
Raeh raises an eyebrow faintly.
You say, "It's in his interest to see that as many people drink that ale as I can manage."
You act: Jurion laces his ribbon through his fingers.
Raeh asks, "Ah he wanted you to get people to drink it, eh?"
You nod.
Raeh asks, "Even Sinjinn?"
Raeh smiles slightly.
You say, "A boy came for Sinjinn later."
You say, "She's been told the same, and we both have something that is supposed to be the cure."
You say, "You see, we've got to drink it as well, to encourage others to."
Raeh says, "Ah."
Raeh nods to you.
You say, "Whether it is the cure or not..."
You act: Jurion lifts his hand and lets it fall.
Raeh asks, "What is the effect of it?"
You say, "I've already had some, you see, so I've nothing to lose."
You say, "I don't know."
You say, "In a fortnight, something's going to happen."
Raeh leans back while sitting on the sturdy oak chair.
You say, "I didn't ask what, but I expect I'll find out one way or the other."
Raeh asks, "Is that everything he told you?"
You nod to Raeh.
Raeh ponders the situation.
Raeh glances at you.
The fire dances within the pit with an almost rhythmic sizzling and popping.
Raeh asks, "He spoke orcish?"
You say, "I didn't want anyone stumbling across us, so I kept it brief. Sinjinn may know more."
You say, "He did."
Raeh nods to you thoughtfully.
Raeh says, "Well, not exactly the grand scheme of revenge I had hoped for."
You chuckle.
Raeh grins wryly.
You say, "It's a start."
Raeh nods to you.
You say, "Grentar, Sascha, Vorctal, Illuriel, Kyra, and Serapha thus far."
Raeh asks, "So I shouldn't run into Breen's hollering about the ale being from a province controlled by Talone, right?"
You say, "It's probably not a good idea."
Raeh grins.
You say, "And... Well."
You say, "Kot's had quite a lot."
Raeh asks, "Those are all of the ones you've gotten to drink it, eh?"
Raeh says, "Kot will keel over first, that's assured."
You grin slightly.
You say, "I've been buying him ales whenever I see him."
You say, "At least I'll know what it does."
Raeh says, "Poor Xeli, but, well, a drunkard for a husband."
Raeh shrugs slightly.
You say, "Merow married them."
Raeh bites her lip.
You say, "I find it difficult to sympathize with them knowing the way they turned on him, afterwards."
Raeh says, "Xelian never did."
Raeh says, "Not that I am aware of."
You shrug.
Raeh says, "Kot was one of the first."
Raeh smirks.
You say, "Her ring makes her complicit."
Raeh says, "He wrote a false letter to Vek."
You say, "It's a pity, but there it is, all the same."
Raeh says, "Signed it with Breen's name."
You nod to Raeh.
You say, "I know, he told us all about it."
Raeh grinds her teeth together.
You say, "This after we'd hammered and hammered on not drawing attention to the Temple or those in it..."
You say, "He hadn't even the guts to sign it with his own name."
Raeh smiles coolly.
You say, "Just as Shala feels easy telling the guard one tale and her friends another."
Raeh says, "I'll have to be sure to buy him a few special ales."
Raeh asks, "Has Shala had any?"
You act: Jurion winds his ribbon tightly around his fingers.
You say, "No."
Raeh says, "She's suspicious enough to likely not try it."
You say, "And given her suspicions, I doubt she will."
You nod to Raeh.
Raeh says, "And if we try to feed it to her, she'll likely turn us in."
Raeh chuckles softly.
You say, "If I've the chance, I'll see about getting you some of the purported cure."
Raeh nods to you.
Raeh says, "I'd like to meet that scholar fellow, as well."
You say, "Although you may want to avoid drinking it, in case this is our friend's way of removing any entanglements after we've done the job."
You nod to Raeh.
Raeh nods to you.
Raeh crosses her arms thoughtfully.
Raeh says, "In a fortnight, then."
You nod to Raeh.
Raeh says, "That's not very far away."
The fire dances within the pit with an almost rhythmic sizzling and popping.
Raeh asks, "He just said "something will happen"?"
You nod to Raeh.
You say, "Something unpleasant."
Raeh says, "Unpleasant."
Raeh says, "That could ebe anything."
You say, "Coming from an orc, I don't imagine it'll be a tea party."
Raeh says, "From dying violently to sprouting an extra arm."
Raeh furrows her brow.
You say, "Going blind, vomiting blood..."
Raeh asks, "Can I meet with you and Sinjinn?"
You nod to Raeh.
Raeh says, "In a few nights, perhaps."
You say, "Of course. She's been ill, but I think later this week she'll be up and around."
Raeh asks, "Has anyone else that you know of been involved with .. this?"
You say, "I need to speak to her about what happened, as well. She came in late that night and has been in bed ever since."
You say, "I think perhaps Leyrn, but I'm not certain."
You say, "He saw the Scholar with us, and he was drinking the ale."
Raeh says, "Because he learned orcish, too."
You say, "If he has the cure as well..."
You nod to Raeh.
You say, "Perhaps he just likes the taste. I haven't spoken to him."
Raeh says, "He.. well, has been acting oddly I've noticed."
You say, "The less we have contact with anyone, the less likely we are to be betrayed."
Raeh nods to you.
You raise an eyebrow.
You ask, "How so?"
Raeh says, "Yes, I don't trust him."
Raeh says, "Not amicable, you know how people act when they've got something to hide."
You say, "Shifty and quiet."
Raeh says, "Which reminds me, I should start acting like I like people again."
Raeh smiles wryly.
You chuckle.
You ask, "Can you manage it?"
Raeh says, "Don't want to cause old Shala to wonder about me, you know."
You ask, "Have a tearful scene with Xelian, perhaps with Shala there?"
Raeh nods thoughtfully.
Raeh says, "All part of the healing process."
You say, "I know by the end of the day my face feels like rubber from smiling at her."
You grimace.
Raeh laughs!
You grin quickly at Raeh.
Raeh says, "I do believe you're one of the few people I actually enjoy the company of of late."
Raeh nods to you.
You act: Jurion bows slightly from his chair.
You say, "Clarity of mind helps me enjoy the time I've got."
You say, "Oh, another thing."
Raeh grins slightly.
Raeh glances at you.
You say, "There are amulets in Taia's... Tarnished ones."
Raeh peers at you.
You say, "It was... arranged... that they be sold there. They have a spell of unpresence in them."
Raeh smiles slowly.
You say, "I suggest you buy a few and hold them as a surety, should things go wrong."
Raeh says, "Perfect."
You say, "I'm working on learning how to use the bloody things, but I keep setting my arms on fire."
You sigh.
Raeh says, "I would have killed for one of those a month ago."
You nod to Raeh.
Raeh says, "Good to know, my thanks."
Raeh nods to you.
You say, "Buy a pouch full, in case the powers that be see fit to take them out. The Guard won't be happy if they can't catch fugitives."
Raeh asks, "Should we arrange to meet in two or three nights?"
You nod to Raeh.
Raeh asks, "Which is best for you?"
You ponder the situation.
Raeh says, "Perhaps you should check with Sinjinn."
The fire dances within the pit with an almost rhythmic sizzling and popping.
You say, "I think so, aye."
Raeh says, "Send me a parchment, if you would."
Raeh smiles at you.
You say, "This week I promised to help her with her studies... the day after tomorrow may be best, but I shall do that."
You get a tall thraelware mug from a large oak table.
Raeh nods to you.
Raeh says, "This fills me with new life, Jurion."
Raeh stands up.
You say, "This isn't rum."
You chuckle.
You stand up.
You put a tall thraelware mug on a large oak table.
Raeh grins.
You say, "I hope it isn't all we can do."
Raeh agrees with you.
You say, "See if you can't buy a few drinks for the merry folks of Kaezar."
You say, "I'm anxious to see what happens in a fortnight."
Raeh says, "But we'll do what we can."
You smile warmly at Raeh.
Raeh says, "I think Raeh Meriweather will be starting to find her old self again."
Raeh walks over to you.
Raeh pats you on the back.
You hug Raeh gingerly.
Raeh hugs you briefly.
You say, "You should be in our play. It's quite stimulating, playing a part."
You chuckle.
You get a tall thraelware mug from a large oak table.
You say, "I'd best get back to Jael's."
Raeh says, "Maybe next time."
Raeh says, "I'll be turning in."
You nod to Raeh.
You say, "Be well, Raeh."
Raeh says, "You too."
You say, "I'll send you messages as I may."
You wave to Raeh.
