A Hint of Treachery
[The Hidden Nook, Common Room]
[You are seated on a sturdy oak chair.]
Light from a large firepit bathes the room with a soft ambient glow. Shadowy images dance along the keafwood walls and around a large oaken door. An archway in the eastern wall reveals a modest, busy kitchen. A simple pine door stands next to a rough vyrewood door against the northern wall. You see four sturdy oak chairs, a large oak table, and a comfortable rabu-fur rug. Also here is Sinjinn.
The wonderful aroma of freshly baked bread fills the air.
The only obvious exit is out.
Sinjinn smiles fondly at you.
Sinjinn sits down on a sturdy oak chair.
Sinjinn nudges a comfortable rabu-fur rug.
Sinjinn massages your temples softly.
Your eyes slowly flutter shut as you breathe a deep sigh of relief.
You groan.
Sinjinn caresses your cheek with her hand.
Sinjinn massages your neck gently. It feels so good!
You say, "Tension, tension."
You chuckle.
You say, "More so because of these."
You open a simple backpack.
You say, "Look."
> l in my simple backpack
In the simple backpack you see twenty-five red wool sashes.
Sinjinn blinks at you.
Sinjinn says, "Ye gods."
You close a simple backpack.
You say, "Yes."
You say, "And I've two of them."
Sinjinn exclaims, "Jurion!"
Sinjinn says, "Throw them away."
You say, "Shh, it's all right."
Sinjinn searches around for something.
You say, "If anyone asks, I'm going to give them to... Khregen."
You gaze at Sinjinn.
Sinjinn opens her mouth as if to say something.
You say, "You understand? Someone needs to know what's going on."
Sinjinn says, "What..."
You say, "I'm finding them all up and down the road. You take my meaning."
Sinjinn exclaims, "Oh!"
Sinjinn says, "I can't believe someone..."
You ask, "Awful, isn't it?"
Sinjinn says, "Yes, that's awful."
Sinjinn softly massages your hands, gently rubbing the pressure points.
Sinjinn tenderly massages your legs.
You sigh softly as she works the knots out of your calves.
You give a sigh of relief.
You ask, "Isn't that degrading?"
You say, "I mean, I know how my feet smell."
You grin at Sinjinn.
Sinjinn says, "When I say I love you, that means I love all of you."
You peer curiously at your feet.
Sinjinn stands up.
Sinjinn tugs at your well-worn black leather boots, trying to get it off your body.
You ask, "Even when I've got wub dung on my boots?"
You kick your well-worn black leather boots off with a sigh of relief.
Sinjinn sits down on a sturdy oak chair.
Sinjinn says, "Even then."
You casually move a hand along your scarlet silk hose, smoothing them a bit.
Sinjinn massages your feet. You let out a deep sigh of contentment.
You wiggle your toes.
You groan.
You say, "I should hire you out."
Sinjinn says, "I'd massage your back, but you have too much on."
You say, "We could make a fortune."
Sinjinn says, "No, no."
You grin slightly at Sinjinn.
Sinjinn waggles her fingers at you.
Sinjinn says, "The magic in these fingers is only for you."
Sinjinn winks at you.
Sinjinn softly massages your arms.
You sigh happily as the soreness fades from your arms.
You say, "Excepting when it's red magic, then it's for everyone."
Sinjinn says, "Yes, that's for everyone else."
Sinjinn smiles happily.
Sinjinn massages your shoulders firmly.
The tension in your shoulder muscles melts away.
Sinjinn says, "You've been stiff in the mornings after rehearsal."
Sinjinn says, "Joints popping."
You say, "It comes of lying on the stage for two bloody hours."
Carrying a quilted pillow, an elderly sylvan lady enters a bedroom and returns, then goes quietly through the arch.
Sinjinn narrows her eyes.
You say, "It's all right, she's deaf."
You say, "Otherwise she'd be giving us one of those scandalized looks from the other night."
Sinjinn massages Jurion's scalp, firmly kneading the tension away.
You act: Jurion lets his head loll against the back of the chair.
You groan.
You say, "I noticed Jayden is back."
Sinjinn says, "Mmmhm. He praised me on my command of the language."
Sinjinn says, "As if what I spoke was real."
You say, "I am not interested in dealing with him in any way whatsoever."
The fire dances within the pit with an almost rhythmic sizzling and popping.
Sinjinn asks, "I wonder how his arrival was taken?"
You say, "Likely with open arms."
Sinjinn nods.
You say, "He's innocent, don't you know."
Sinjinn says, "Mm."
Sinjinn caresses your knee.
Sinjinn caresses your ankle.
Sinjinn tickles you.
You squirm.
You laugh quietly.
Sinjinn grins slightly.
You say, "You'd think they wouldn't stand outside Breen's like geese in a rainstorm."
Sinjinn snickers.
Sinjinn says, "They're bereft."
You ask, "Of the poison ale?"
Sinjinn asks, "Wherever will they go? Whatever will they do?"
Sinjinn smirks.
Sinjinn says, "I don't understand it myself."
You say, "Apparently milk can cure it, though."
Sinjinn says, "The man went fishing. There's drinks to be had elsewhere, and much finer establishments."
Sinjinn opens her mouth as if to say something.
Sinjinn nods to you.
You say, "Seems a rather useless poison if milk and the witchwife in Setter's Bog can make it go away."
Sinjinn says, "I agree. It makes me wonder what they were up to with it in the first place."
You nod to Sinjinn agreeably.
Sinjinn says, "Mild nuisance? To ferret out Breen? Seems rather odd."
Sinjinn shrugs.
You ask, "Wonder if Breen's making a run for it?"
Sinjinn chuckles.
Sinjinn says, "The way he was acting? The way people in this town deal with traitors or even the hint of treachery? I'm sure he's long gone."
You ask, "You know what the odd thing was?"
Sinjinn peers at you.
You say, "I saw several people downing jars of it after Arknor announced that it was poisoned."
Sinjinn opens her mouth as if to say something.
You say, "It was as if they had to see for themselves."
Sinjinn frowns.
Sinjinn says, "I've said it before, I'm sure I'll say it a million times again, but I do not understand these Kazaerians."
You lean back while sitting on the sturdy oak chair.
You get some well-worn black leather boots from the wooden floor.
You pull your well-worn black leather boots on your feet.
You pull on your well-worn black leather boots.
You grunt.
You ask, "What do you think we should do with the costumes?"
Sinjinn says, "I don't honestly know."
You say, "Severin suggested perhaps we could give them back to Grilla or Edrella as an advance towards the next production."
Sinjinn says, "I rather assumed Sev would want them."
Sinjinn nods to you.
You say, "They're rather one-use only."
You say, "Except yours. If we'd only somewhere to put it."
Sinjinn says, "I know. They did a spendid job on it."
Sinjinn opens a bead-trimmed deep amethyst robe.
Sinjinn gets a theatrical costume from a bead-trimmed deep amethyst robe.
> l sin's costume
This orc prowler costume is quite believable. It looks exactly like a real orc right down to the pierced snout. A purple leather bodysuit completes the costume.
You say, "Especially the piercing on the snout."
You chuckle.
You say, "It made you a little nasal."
Sinjinn says, "And the hairy palms."
Sinjinn shudders.
Sinjinn winces.
You chuckle.
You say, "I rather liked those, myself."
Sinjinn raises an eyebrow slowly in your direction.
Sinjinn asks, "You... did?"
Sinjinn grimaces slightly.
You glare at Sinjinn.
You laugh!
Sinjinn snickers at you.
You act: Jurion props his chin on his fist.
Sinjinn gasps.
Sinjinn says, "I didn't even think..."
You say, "Well, I'm thankful it's over with."
Sinjinn says, "I must look a mess."
Sinjinn pats at her hair.
You say, "Your hair's a little..."
Sinjinn says, "This thing made me sweat..."
Sinjinn bites her lip worriedly.
You act: Jurion makes a fluffing motion.
Sinjinn asks, "It's hideous?"
You say, "It looks as if you've just gotten out of bed, but it's hardly hideous."
Sinjinn blinks.
Sinjinn says, "I'm a fool."
Sinjinn puts a theatrical costume in her bead-trimmed deep amethyst robe.
Sinjinn smiles fondly at you.
You act: Jurion adjusts the straps of his backpack.
Sinjinn gets a carved mahogany brush from an embroidered velvet traveler's case.
Sinjinn sighs happily.
Sinjinn brushes her hair, making it shine and gleam.
You say, "I am really beginning to loathe wearing this backpack."
You say, "It destroys the lines of my doublet."
Sinjinn says, "Well, it does bulge..."
Sinjinn brushes her hair, making it shine and gleam.
Sinjinn says, "Too bad you can't hand it off."
Sinjinn says, "Soon, anyway."
Sinjinn puts a carved mahogany brush in her embroidered velvet traveler's case.
You say, "Soon enough."
Sinjinn gets a carved mahogany hand mirror from an embroidered velvet traveler's case.
You repeatedly poke your simple backpack.
Sinjinn primps briefly in the mirror.
You admire Sinjinn's hair.
Sinjinn asks, "Better?"
You say, "Much."
Sinjinn shakes her hair.
You say, "Bit of green fuzz on the shoulder."
Sinjinn idly picks her concealing black velvet cloak.
Sinjinn says, "I feel inhuman."
You nod to Sinjinn.
You say, "That's done it."
Sinjinn says, "I need a bath or something before bed."
Sinjinn puts a carved mahogany hand mirror in her embroidered velvet traveler's case.
Sinjinn closes an embroidered velvet traveler's case.
You say, "We both do."
Sinjinn puts an embroidered velvet traveler's case in her bead-trimmed deep amethyst robe.
Sinjinn rubs her bead-trimmed deep amethyst robe.
Sinjinn closes a bead-trimmed deep amethyst robe.
You say, "I need to get rid of this crossbow, as well."
Sinjinn grins rakishly at you.
Sinjinn says, "I enjoyed watching you do that."
You grin slightly.
You say, "I enjoyed doing it."
Sinjinn says, "Something about the sparkle from the footlights in your eyes... I just had fun."
Sinjinn shakes her head.
Sinjinn says, "I'd love Sev to do another play."
You say, "Those were tears from when Khregen stepped on me."
Sinjinn opens her mouth as if to say something.
Sinjinn glances at you and winces.
Sinjinn says, "Oh, you poor dear..."
Sinjinn giggles.
Sinjinn snickers.
You glance at Sinjinn and tsk.
Sinjinn clears her throat.
Sinjinn blinks innocently.
You ask, "You haven't had a hundred stones of armored dwarf come down on you lately, have you?"
Sinjinn softly massages your hands, gently rubbing the pressure points.
Sinjinn says, "I should hope not."
Sinjinn raises an eyebrow in your direction.
You say, "At least Xelian didn't fall over."
You chuckle.
Sinjinn grins.
You say, "Do you remember that? And her axe went wham! right into the floor."
Sinjinn laughs!
You say, "I thought she was going to chop my foot off."
Sinjinn says, "Oh, gods."
Sinjinn snickers.
Sinjinn says, "She would have felt terrible, of course."
Sinjinn giggles at you.
You exclaim, "So would I!"
Sinjinn laughs!
You act: Jurion looks mock-indignant.
You chuckle.
Sinjinn says, "It would have been a war wound of sorts..."
Sinjinn says, "Our children would marvel over it..."
Sinjinn says, "And this is when your father lost his foot... in a ... war."
You say, "I assure you, I'd make her buy me a fetish."
Sinjinn chuckles at you.
You chuckle.
You exclaim, "Father said a priestess chopped it off!"
Sinjinn laughs!
You say, "It was a war. Hush."
Sinjinn says, "Your father lost his mind in another war."
You act: Jurion glares at an imaginary child.
Sinjinn claps her hands together.
Sinjinn chuckles.
Sinjinn says, "We would scar children irreparably. Let's have one tomorrow."
Sinjinn beams mischievously!
You raise an eyebrow.
You say, "I didn't think it worked quite like that."
Sinjinn says, "It doesn't have to be ours."
You ask, "We could make one tomorrow, but don't we have to wait a bit for the results?"
Sinjinn chuckles.
Sinjinn says, "I intend to go through the motions of making one tonight, thank you very much."
Sinjinn says, "Hmph."
You chuckle.
You say, "Hmph, she says."
Sinjinn stifles a grin.
Sinjinn peers at her stomach.
Sinjinn says, "I would make a terrible pregnant woman."
You shudder.
You say, "I'd think it would be sort of a terrible radiance."
Sinjinn exclaims, "Bring me the appendix of a kelpie! I'm having a horrible craving!"
You act: Jurion chokes.
You laugh!
Sinjinn snickers.
You say, "Oh ye gods."
You laugh helplessly.
Sinjinn grins widely at you.
I don't know what you mean.
You act: Jurion wipes his eyes.
You chuckle.
Sinjinn says, "Besides, I'm too small. I'd look like I was carrying a boulder on my belly at four months."
You say, "Now I'm having horrible visions of a child toddling around chewing on a bit of trollhide."
Sinjinn laughs!
Sinjinn says, "Oh, good idea."
You ask, "... Your mother gave that to you?"
Sinjinn nods happily.
Sinjinn chuckles.
You say, "She says it's good for the digestion... mm-hmm."
Sinjinn laughs!
You say, "She's teaching you how to make your hands glow red, too? Lovely."
Sinjinn laughs at you!
Sinjinn says, "I'd let her learn to throw knives."
Sinjinn says, "At other children."
You ask, "It's a her, now, hm?"
You chuckle.
You say, "Especially at other children, yes."
Sinjinn smiles surreptitiously.
Sinjinn says, "No, I think I'd like a boy."
You say, "Why? Boys are horrid."
Sinjinn says, "As long as he looked like you, otherwise..."
You say, "They're filthy ravening little beasts."
Sinjinn says, "So are girls."
You say, "Well, yes."
You chuckle.
Sinjinn says, "In fact, children in general are."
You say, "We can ship it off somewhere."
Sinjinn beams!
You say, "Wet-nurse it, boarding school it..."
Sinjinn says, "What a marvelous idea."
You say, "If only we could get someone else to carry it..."
You ponder the situation.
Sinjinn ponders the situation.
You say, "You know, I imagine we could avoid having to deal with it at all if we were careful."
Sinjinn nods to you sagely.
Sinjinn says, "I'm sure so."
Sinjinn says, "You never know what all my waggling might do to a tiny little parasite..."
You say, "It would crawl out and promptly bludgeon a wubwuv to death."
Sinjinn throws back her head and cackles.
You ask, "Did Soth tell you what happened, by the way?"
Sinjinn says, "Protect your mother, dear... "yes, mother.""
Sinjinn says, "No, actually."
Sinjinn says, "But I've not heard or seen Tiviana or Giselle."
Sinjinn asks, "Was it Giselle?"
Sinjinn furrows her brow.
You nod to Sinjinn.
You say, "I gather he told Vurlak rather curtly that they're dead."
Sinjinn frowns.
Sinjinn says, "He didn't tell me that, but."
Sinjinn says, "He didn't seem happy, either way."
You say, "No, he didn't, did he."
You say, "Not much good fortune has followed the Company around."
Sinjinn says, "Except for you."
Sinjinn smiles at you.
Sinjinn chuckles.
You grin slightly.
Sinjinn says, "I mean, here I sit."
Sinjinn poses dramatically.
You admire Sinjinn.
Sinjinn gazes fondly at you.
You shake your hair.
You chuckle.
Sinjinn grins slowly at you.
Sinjinn asks, "When was the last time you took those braids down?"
You say, "For my bath yesterday."
Sinjinn says, "The costume must have untangled them."
You act: Jurion rakes his hand through his braids.
Sinjinn says, "You've got strays."
You say, "I had to put it up after."
Sinjinn grins at you.
You chuckle.
You say, "Hardly surprising."
Sinjinn says, "I think I'm ready to make it even more of a mess."
You chuckle.
You stand up.
Sinjinn stands up.
You kiss Sinjinn.
