Grab It By The Handle
[City of Kaezar, High Terrace, Royal Arcade]
This splendid avenue, bordered on either side by arcades, stretches northeast and southwest across the high terrace. Beneath the flanking arcades, blocks of stone are perched upon bluestone pedestals. Continuing their northeasterly path, the knotted pattern of bluestone rings stretches down the avenue. Hanging beneath the flanking arches of the arcades, links of t'elt chain support white cressets. You see two stone benches. Obvious exits are southwest and northeast.
Your group follows you.
You seat yourself on a stone bench.
Khregen seats himself on a stone bench.
You say, "Hopefully he won't come to kill me."
You act: Jurion looks at his hand in distaste.
You act: Jurion wipes his hands on his breeches.
Khregen asks, "Ye sneaked inte de palace afore, aye?"
You laugh!
You say, "No."
You say, "We were let in by Langret."
Khregen snaps his fingers.
You say, "We tried to sneak in... for weeks, I think."
You say, "But we never did find any way to manage it until we met Langret."
Khregen says, "I was hopin te sneak in and check on de Prince."
You ask, "Why? Looking for ways to tighten the defenses?"
You say, "Ah."
You ask, "Still no word from him?"
Khregen says, "No word."
Khregen says, "I am purty worried."
Khregen says, "No one has talked te em."
You ask, "Are orders coming to your Sergeant through the court, or are you going through Imperial channels?"
Khregen says, "Udders aire startin te notice hit as well."
Khregen says, "Imperial."
You ask, "Can they tell you anything about what's going on in the castle?"
Khregen says, "I spect dey got message by bird."
You nod to Khregen.
Khregen shakes his head at you.
Khregen says, "Vera little has come out'n de castle."
You open your mouth as if to say something.
You say, "You know, Grilla tailors for the Prince."
Khregen says, "I am sending questions up de command structure."
You say, "Severin is supposed to meet with him, among other tailors, for his costuming."
Khregen says, "Maybe Sev could as Grilla if'n he has seen de Prince."
You say, "Mayhap we could inquire something. It's an odd source, but sometimes you hear more from the maids than from the courtiers."
Khregen nods.
Khregen says, "I spect grilla sees lots."
You say, "I'll make sure to speak to Severin about it, then, in case I'm not about when he sees Grilla."
You lean back while sitting on the stone bench.
You ask, "What do you think about the jhakor?"
Khregen says, "Tankee jurion."
You nod agreeably.
Khregen says, "Any dagger in a brawl will do, jest make sure ye grab hit by de handle."
Khregen grins from ear to ear, eyes twinkling.
You laugh!
You ask, "With the jhakor, how can you tell which end is the blade?"
Khregen says, "Ye cinna vera easy."
Khregen says, "I asked de same question."
You ask, "Are you satisfied that we're doing the right thing?"

Khregen says, "Yes."
Khregen nods to you.
You say, "Let me walk you back to Breen's, then."
You stand up.
Khregen stands up.
You say, "You can guard me 'gainst Shadeark."
Khregen says, "Dat was a great crack bout de hair."
You say, "Wish I could have told you the location of the secret passage into Vek's boudoir."
Khregen laughs!
Khregen's body shakes uncontrollably.
You say, "I've got to keep that one to myself, though."
Khregen says, "Tanks."
