Take dis er down scrib with no funny stuff.
Mission to Shiman's Hostelry on the Never-upon-Venre Road.
Early in the evening I stopped at the gate where I heard a tale about a merchant gettin robbed up towards Never from guardsman Belart. Belart toke the mans statement but did not commit to investigating the crime.
A little while later while in Jael's in Kemstead with Jurion playing darts, Severin and Shala came in and asked if we might help them investigate the loss of a merchants tools. On the ways to the Hostelry I learned that the merchant's name was Bargo, he is an engraver, he was attacked and robbed near the Hostelry and he suspected the owner might know something about the robbery. I think I may remember see an orc at that inn before.
When we arrived at the inn Severin and Jurion both tried to talk to the owner, Shiman. He only looked a bit nervous and would not answer any questions. So Shala and Severin went upstairs to search those rooms while myself and Jurion watched Shiman. I asked him some pleasant enough questions about the quality of his ale and such, but he never answered, he only cleaned the bar.
When Shala and Severin returned he became really agitated and after only a few seconds bolted for the door. I immediately followed and he ran southeasterly. I soon lost him however. AS the group caught me we split up to look for Shiman. A few minutes later Severin came back running and toke me further southeast to the point in the trail where the trail crosses a ledge.
There was Shiman's corpse, Jurion was attempting to use a blessed coin on him but his jaws seemed to be lock tight. Severin told me that he had saw Shiman and tried to tackle him to keep him from escaping and that Shiman had fallen or that Severin's strike broke the dwarfs neck. I examined the body to find no wounds and tried to use my own coin on this very suspicious acting fellow. In a moment we decided that Jurion would take Shiman's corpse to Never in the company of Shala, and Severin while I looked over the area for clues. Before they left guardsman Aljeron showed up. He and I began to examin the trail as I figured Shiman had run to the southeast for a reason.
After searching the immediate area Aljeron and I returned to the inn. Aljeron searched there while I tried the trail again. In a while Jurion, Severin, and Shala came back and asked if we had seen Shiman. We hadn't of course because he was supposed to be with them. They then told me that they did not make it to the priest in Never in time but that they had continued there where they saw Shiman fleeing in a robe.
The only evidence I still posses is the rag that was in Shiman's hand when he fled the inn. I had found it at the site of his death.
Aljeron and I searched well the area from the Eyssa Stele to the baskets bridge near Kemstead. We found no new trails or signs of an orc encampment. This is the fourth odd report that I have heard from this area in the last while.
Severin is faultless in the death of Shiman for he was only trying to apprehend the subject for questioning. I know him well so I give my word as voucher.
I would recommend that should this Shiman be seen he be apprehended for questioning. He is a dwarf, with a grey curly beard with a small braid, he is over weight, and by the shape of his personal room one that likes as much of the good life as he can afford.
I intend to investigate this mater further on the morrow. I had been in the woode northwest where the cart was found earlier this day but I intend to return.
I attempted to verbally report this matter to Guardsman Belart as soon as I returned to Kazear.
