He's Not A Fool
[City of Kaezar, High Terrace, Hember Court Park]
Sprawling across the area, a field of greenery dominates this section of Hember Court. Sitting beneath a gnarled and knotty tree, a lone wooden bench is shaded by its verdant canopy. In the center of the park, several other oak benches encircle a limestone fountain. Beyond an arcade to the east, a distant stone wall comes into view, while to the north, a set of crenellated towers oversee the surrounding landscape.
The only obvious exit is north.
Raeh gives a sigh of relief.
You sit down on a lone wooden bench.
Raeh says, "Thank heavens, those are so confining."
Raeh sits down on a lone wooden bench.
Raeh says, "Hey, this is nice."
Raeh gazes in wonder at her surroundings.
Raeh says, "Now that I'm bleeding."
You say, "I rather like it. It's quiet."
Using a stray bit of cloth, Raeh carefully binds her abdomen.
Raeh says, "From now on, that's the signal Jurion."
Raeh says, "I'll smooth my gown a bit and we'll meet... er..."
You say, "Let's set the next place now."
You shrug.
Raeh says, "That way I don't have to be obvious."
Raeh says, "Whispering and all."
You say, "We can pick a new one each time we happen to meet."
You nod to Raeh.
Raeh says, "I've a different signal for others. The smoothing is yours."
Raeh's left hand has been healed.
Raeh says, "I spoke with Leyrn a few times."
You act: Jurion laces his fingers together.
You nod.
Raeh says, "The first time made me a bit nervous about his loyalties."
Raeh says, "He met with Jayden after our talk."
Raeh says, "Jayden is fairly careless."
Raeh says, "Later I saw Jayden with Saebra."
Raeh says, "So I got to thinking."
Raeh smiles.
Raeh says, "Last night I took Leyrn aside."
Raeh says, "The fellow is fairly smart, actually, even if he can't carry out an assassination attempt."
Raeh's abdomen has been healed.
Raeh says, "Although not so smart to the point where he can't be manipulated."
You ask, "Do you think he's being manipulated by Jayden?"
Raeh says, "No."
Raeh says, "Jayden is... eh."
Raeh says, "Jayden is a dealer of sorts."
Raeh says, "He sold Leyrn a very powerful magical object."
You raise an eyebrow slightly.
Raeh says, "An aether beacon amulet."
You ask, "What is that?"
Raeh says, "I'm not certain where he attained them but he is selling them now to select people."
Raeh says, "It is very powerful."
Raeh says, "You can rub it in an area."
Raeh says, "Go do some things, rub it again, and you come back to where you started."
Raeh smiles slightly.
You say, "Ahhh."
Raeh asks, "Nice, no?"
You ask, "Did you happen to find out what this trinket cost Leyrn?"
Raeh says, "No, I didn't ask."
Raeh says, "It doesn't matter. Jayden has more."
Raeh says, "I expect he charged quite a bit for it."
Raeh waves her hand disinterestedly.
Raeh says, "Also, he told me he's seen Jayden speaking with an imperial guard."
Raeh says, "I'm trying to flesh out the fellow."
You say, "Really, now."
Raeh says, "I spoke with Saebra this morning at length."
You say, "I requested more information on Jayden when last I saw our contact."
Raeh raises an eyebrow.
You say, "I also intend to question the Scholar about any others he's instructed, when we see him next."
Raeh asks, "Do you have any idea when the scholar will be about?"
You shake your head at Raeh.
You say, "Only 'soon.'"
Raeh says, "Hmph."
Raeh says, "Well, I asked Saebra .. vaguely.. if Jayden had helped her aquire an object."
Raeh says, "She had no idea what I was talking about so I didn't pursue that strain further."
You ask, "Was the amulet of wrought steel?"
Raeh says, "I didn't look closely at its ingredients."
You say, "I've seen Jayden wearing such... Blast. If that was what it is, I'm going to be irked."
You say, "Maeve and Teg and I pulled several of those out of that chest we found below ground, but they claimed them all."
Raeh laughs wryly.
Raeh says, "Well, he's selling them now, apparently."
Raeh says, "However..."
Raeh says, "They may not be the same."
You nod.
Raeh asks, "Who were you with when you found.. wait, what chest?"
Raeh chuckles at you.
You say, "It was months ago. There's a locked room a goodly distance below one of the breweries, Maeve led us to it."
Raeh says, "That's quite a while back."
You nod to Raeh.
You say, "Probably not the same source."
Raeh asks, "And Jayden and Teg were there?"
You say, "Nay, it was Teg, Maeve, Khregen, Severin and I."
Raeh says, "Ah."
Raeh says, "Leyrn did say he aquired them from someone."
Raeh says, "Soemthing like that."
Raeh shrugs.
Raeh says, "Anyway, I'm more certain Leyrn is more interested in working for us than blowing the whistle on us."
You say, "I'm not comfortable with the idea of working with him any longer."
Raeh says, "Ah yes, and Jayden apparently isn't in kahoots with Saeb-"
Raeh says, "Well, Jurion."
You say, "I'm not in charge, you know."
You shrug.
You say, "But I personally want nothing more to do with him."
Raeh says, "I understand..."
Raeh says, "But you see,"
Raeh says, "He's .. eh."
Raeh says, "He's not useless. I believe we've more to lose alienating him than keeping him around."
You say, "If you and Gavronte wish to continue on with him, that's fine. I don't wish to alienate him, either, that would be entirely too dangerous."
Raeh says, "I'll talk it over with Gavronte."
You say, "But I don't plan to meet with him myself. He's a fool, Raeh."
Raeh says, "In any case, I must be going."
You nod to Raeh.
Raeh stands up.
You say, "Do you know your way out? Father Lothacan's is just up the road."
You point north.
Raeh says, "He may have botched a job, yes."
Raeh says, "But he's certainly not a fool."
Raeh smiles wryly.
You say, "It goes beyond 'botching a job.'"
Raeh nods to you.
Raeh says, "Just so you don't worry, I plan to only feed him very limited information."
You frown.
You say, "As you like."
Raeh says, "I am wary. I just don't plan to cut him out entirely."
Raeh says, "There are few enough of us as it is."
You say, "Whatever you like, Raeh. But I am going to curtail my own involvement with him."
Raeh says, "Alright then."
Raeh takes a deep breath.
Raeh casually smooths the folds of her embroidered soft green damask gown.
Raeh asks, "So next we meet at the top of the clocktower?"
You nod to Raeh.
You say, "Sounds like a plan."
Raeh smiles at you.
Raeh waves.
You wave.
Raeh walks north.
You gaze upwards to the heavens.
You lean back while sitting on the lone wooden bench.
